The journey of Matabeleland continues, and it has been exciting for us to see how the film is finding its way to new audiences across borders.
Bertha DocHouse, London
Matabeleland spent much of April in London, and the love for the film at Bertha DocHouse has been real.
The interest for the film was so high that the cinema actually added extra dates to the schedule to make sure everyone had a chance to watch.
The sold out Q&A screening that happened on April 10th featured a deep conversation with an exciting panel:
- Nyasha Kadandara – Director
- Peter Murimi – Co-Director (The Battle for Laikipia)
- Tonderai Munyevu – Writer, Director & Performer
- Natasha Fuyane – Host (Chat with Nat Show)
Seeing the Zimbabwean community and the wider African diaspora in London show up for this story is a reminder that these films find their true life when the audience makes them their own.

University of the Free State, Bloemfontein
We also had a powerful screening at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa, during the Human Rights Day weekend.
The post-film screening exchange between Dr. Madhlazi Moyo and Professor Clement Masakure was deeply personal. They brought in Zimbabwean perspectives that are so central to why this film exists; to create spaces for reflection and questioning.
We want to keep bringing these conversations to schools and universities. If you’re part of an institution and want to host a screening, we’d love to hear from you.
