Solutions Film Festival

Events  /  17th July 2024

Congratulations to Docubox, The Video Consortium, and the Skoll Foundation for the successful launch of the inaugural Solutions Film Festival! This festival is dedicated to amplifying impactful solutions across Africa through the art of storytelling.

The event brought together filmmakers, activists, NGOs, and changemakers to delve into critical issues facing African communities and to celebrate the innovative solutions proposed by local voices. Through powerful short films and invaluable networking opportunities, the Solutions Film Festival aims to ignite meaningful dialogue, foster collaboration, and drive positive change in Africa and beyond.

We were honored to contribute to this year’s festival through our Impact Producer, Chloe Genga, who participated in the panel "Reel Change: How Films Drive Activism and Shape Social Movements." The panel also featured human rights activist Naomi Barasa and was moderated by Dennis Aseto.

Key discussions from the panel included:
  • The importance of telling our own original stories.
  • Ethical considerations in documentary storytelling, especially when filming other people’s stories.
  • Maintaining authenticity in impact while meeting funders' expectations.
  • The role of films in driving change, using Softie as a case study.

Stay tuned for future editions of the Solutions Film Festival!
