STERO AND INHERITANCE WIN IN JOBURG AND KITALE

Events  /  6th June 2026

March has brought some meaningful recognition for our short films as they continue their journeys across the continent.

STERO: Best Short Film at Joburg Film Festival
Following the short film's return to South Africa earlier this month, Stero took home the award for Best Short Film at the Joburg Film Festival. Seeing a story deeply rooted in the Kenyan experience find such a strong resonance with audiences and the jury in Johannesburg reminds us of the universal power of local narratives. Congratulations to the team for this well-deserved win.

Stero is Directed by Tevin Kimathi and Millan Tarus and Produced by Juliana Kabua.

INHERITANCE: Best Narrative Short at Kitale Film Week
Closer to home, the short film Inheritance was named Best Narrative Short Film at the 4th edition of Kitale Film Week.

Directed by Barbara Minishi, produced by Ivy Kiru, and written by Ngwatilo Mawiyoo, the film follows Ndanu as she returns upcountry for her grandfather’s funeral, an awkward reunion that leads to an encounter with an ancestor and a path toward reconciliation. We appreciate the festival organizers and the Kenya Film Commission for championing stories that celebrate the diversity of Kenyan cinema.
